Where’s Kevin’s Package?
“ Don’t Slinkies have a distinct smell? ”

They really do, though. You could probably bottle and sell that as nostalgic perfume.

Dear Santa,
Please, oh please, a “Designer Leopard” necky in my stocking!
Sincerely,

the back up… many people are getting it for BOTH sides of the bed!
My jaw hit the floor.
“ people who wear clothes at Wreck Beach are assholes. It’s like wearing a team jersey and baseball cap to the opera. No one’s going to make you leave, but you’re being a dick and everyone knows it. ”
Gareth, on Wreck beach.
Gareth’s strengths lie in his similies. He’s like… Hemmingway, but for writing… no… er… His similies ring true like metaphors, but include “like” or “as”… no … er… His writing is like a meatball. Meaty, enjoyable, and sometimes you wonder why you don’t eat it more often. See? I can be a literary genius, too.
Vimeo being sued for lip dubs is so obviously insane I don’t even feel the need to comment. Instead, I’m going to use it as an excuse to repost this.
Almost two years ago I made a lip dub for The Verve Pipe’s 90’s hit, The Freshman. EMI Publishing sent a copyright infringement notice and I had to take it down. Just to spite them (because I’m sure they cared) I reposted it without the music. In order to further stick it to EMI I am going to keep not buying music from the major labels, just like everyone else since at least 2000.
If you have a legally purchased copy of The Verve Pipe’s seminal 1996 album Villains handy and you’re a Jeff Rubin superfan, you can synch it up at home yourself. In retrospect I should have given the video a countdown to make synching easier, this takes a few tries but the video and the song start at almost the exact same time.
The audio happens to be located here… Worth a sync-up, friends.
Vimeo Sued By Capitol Records Over Lip Dubs
I roared with a belly laugh when I read this headline. Could Capitol Records truly be this misguided? Do they not realize that if you were to sort Internet brands by those most emblematic of creativity — not piracy — that Vimeo would line up at the top? Lip-dubbing is harmless and perfectly fun, and ultimately will define the aesthetic of an Internet generation. Other than for some petty legal jockeying towards a greater strategy can I imagine why this record company would try to sink such a potentially valuable lifeline — Lip-Dubbing and Vimeo create tremendous relevance and usefulness for their catalog!
If anything better underlines my point it’s an email I received from Sean Nelson, the frontman of the band Harvey Danger, whose song Flagpole Sitta we’ve now infamously lip-dubbed:
That Flagpole Sitta video made me incredibly happy, just when I thought there was NOTHING that could make me listen to that song again. A thousand thank you’s.Capitol, you’re a bunch of goof-balls. This lawsuit is the tactical equivalent to pooping on someone’s birthday cake.
I, for one, am willing to boycott Capitol artists unless they reconsider, and I implore other labels to pivot and spur conversations with Vimeo in order to determine a simple process to give people access to copyrighted music for personal video that is satisfactory for all. Preemptive strikes simply won’t do anymore!
Please reblog, or honk, if you agree.
Lip dubs are great. They just are. And they’re great free promotion of music. Wow. That sounds too good to be true. Win-win even.
The only possible reason I can think for the Vimeo lawsuit is that Capitol Records is being run by Mr. Burns.
“Smithers, have Vimeo sued.”
I’m sitting near a group of guys talking about “Colossi” as in the plural of “Colossus”… #NerdsInMyVicinity
