Home in D’Rock from Naramata 08

Featuring Melissa.

I did the third solo.  The one that’s a man’s voice.  Well my voice.  So… You be the judge.

I’m kinda upset that the choir couldn’t handle the one blue note in the song.  But whatever.  Can’t win them all.

“Spirituals Medley”

Naramata 2007

Young Adult Choir

Arranged & Directed by Brian Tate

This was the highlight of Naramata’s Summer 2007 music week workshop for me.  I’m singing the tenor “Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child” part.  Also, you can hear me adlib a “moan” in the moanin’ section.  Can you hear me?

So much fun, it should be illegal.  I hope you enjoy.

Also singing:  napoleonsbattleplan

Buddy Griffin & His Orchestra w/ Claudia Swann - “I Want to Hug You, Kiss You, Squeeze You”

This is my favorite song on The Chess Story box set, a box set you gotta get if you like blues, jazz, and soul. I would love to hear someone cover this song and keep to the sultry playfulness.

I wish I knew more about Buddy and Claudia. From what I gather, Buddy Griffin and Claudia Swann eventually married, and this song was one of their last before the disbanding of Griffin’s orchestra. Despite their loose affiliations with the Moonglows and Bo Diddley, they seem to have disappeared amid the 50’s music hustle.

Stewart McClean’s Vinyl Cafe has long been my favorite program on the radio.  Unfortunately, I rarely get a chance to hear the full weekly episodes.  Lucky for me, the vinyl cafe has a podcast that I subscribe to.

It is usually McClean reading a story, sent in from a fan or one of his own creation, about the simpler things in life.  But every now and then, the podcast is something different.  This week’s podcast is something different.

Quip: Quite possibly my new favorite song.  I can’t stop playing this video.  I plan on buying the album at my soonest possible convenience!

dangurewitch:

I just discovered (a little late) that Barenaked Ladies released a childrens’ album this past May. This is Pollywog in a Bog, a ditty that would be right at home on the White Album, and arguably the happiest song and video ever produced. Puppets! If you are in a bad mood, this will cure it. If you’re in a good mood, you’re going to explode.

If you can handle even more charm, check out Raisins, another kids’ song performed by Ed Robertson in his bathroom (thanks to Sam for pointing out The Bathroom Sessions), which features lines like “When I make mistakes, I use a lot of salt, ‘cause salt makes m’steaks taste great.”

Quip: That he was always my favorite muppet should have been a tell… :P

Kevin: This is surreal, and awesome, and creepy, and awesome!!  Wear headphones and close your eyes and play this video.  It is really, really cool!  And I swear to you, after doing this, I think my hair got shorter…
